News from the Icebergers

Our Olsen-Hooper summer handicap swim was held in ideal conditions on Sunday morning 9th December. Smooth waters meant that most swimmers were able to negotiate the traditional 2.1 km ‘Big Course’ fairly comfortably and we were pleased to see a strong turnout of 57 swimmers participate. Congratulations to Michael Potter who won the race from fellow 7:30 AM swimmers Warren Fisher and Keith Badger. Tim Roberts-Thomson, who recently underwent a hip operation, won the Channel swim.

We were honoured to have both John Olsen and Rob Hooper in attendance at the swim and a fantastic painting of these two gentlemen was unveiled at the post-swim breakfast by artist Ian Scholes and presented to them. This lovely painting is now hanging on the wall in the downstairs passageway. International Swimmer of the Year Honours went to John Scanlon who has been a very dedicated winter swimmer for many years and helps with administrative issues behind the scenes.

A great morning was enjoyed by all.
