HMAS GOORANGAI Memorial Trophy Race 2018: 3rd November
Commemorating the tragic sinking of HMAS Goorangai with the loss of all 24 crew on 20th November 1940. A former Club member, Les Nangle, was a Petty Officer in the RANVR prior to the War and was called up, served in HMAS Goorangai and left her just before her last voyage. Many of his mates were on HMAS Goorangai and it was to preserve their memory that he presented the Goorangai Trophy to the Club.
MAKE IT A LONG WEEKEND-MELBOURNE CUP is on Tuesday 6th November. Cruising Groups are encouraged to join in the race or cruise to QCYC and take advantage of the $20 wharfage fee over the weekend. For those without a vehicle, the Club Ferry will be available for transport to Queenscliff-by arrangement.
The Race is from Brighton to Queenscliff and is conducted by the Queenscliff Cruising Yacht Club with the assistance of Royal Brighton Yacht Club and is open to all keelboats on the register of an affiliated Club.

Sunday, November 3rd is QCYC’s 56th Opening Day and competitors are invited to stay and attend the Opening Ceremony, Blessing of the Fleet and luncheon.
