Report on WISC Awards Presentation
A very entertaining and successful wrap up for the RBYC participants in the 2009 WISC season was held at the clubhouse on the evening of Wednesday April 22. All the participants, women skippers, crews and their mentors switched their sailing talents for singing talents and delivered lively renditions of their signature 'boat songs' recounting their WISC experiences.
Thank you to Boyd Young Concrete & landscaping Services for their generous donation of bottles of wine for this year's "Achievement Awards". Skippers nominated a crew member from their boat, in recognition of outstanding performance throughout the series.
Stephane Howarth and her crew aboard Clockwork were awarded the "Best Performance by an RBYC Crew" for the series, with a second place in PHD and first place in IRC.
Sally Williams was awarded a "Leadership Award" for her outstanding contribution to putting Women's sailing @RBYC on the map. She has established her credentials as Women's Sailing representative on Sailing Committee and also on the WISIG (Women in Sailing Interest Group) committee initiated by Yachting Victoria.
She has been a highly competitive and successful skipper, including leading her crew to winning the WISC Series 2006-07.
Despite her recent career change, having swapped her profession as a physiotherapist for her passion for sailing and becoming the Sailing Administrator at RMYS, she will still be sailing from RBYC and supporting us with her experience and wisdom.
Looking forward, it was with great excitement, that we launched the first ever RBYC Lady Skippers' Short Course Series to be held over the weekend of May 23-24 2009.
Our major sponsor Gino Ammavuta from G Gallery joined us for the evening and he is crafting a beautiful perpetual trophy to establish this series as an ongoing event as well as providing Hugo Boss watches as prizes. We look forward to Gino's ongoing involvement in sponsoring our sailing activities and are working on turning him into a sailor!
Thanks to everyone who made the night such a success, particularly Jenny Pascoe for her work behind the scenes and Mandy Jackson independent Nutrimetics consultant for her donation of prizes on the evening.
Congratulations to everyone who participated in WUISC this season and we look forward to an even bigger and better participation in WISC for the 2009-2010 season.
