Sail Melbourne in full swing at RBYC
Over 330 competitors turned up on the shores of Brighton
Yesterday saw the beginning of the 2017 Sail Melbourne regatta, hosted this year by Royal Brighton Yacht Club. And what a smashing first day it was!
Over 330 competitors from nine different countries entered the event so the competition out there has been fierce. The wind was late to arrive in the morning, causing the AP flag to be raised for the classes meant for the 2PM start. Slowly but surely though the breeze filled in from the southeast and racing could finally begin, all while under a brightly shining sun which raised the temperature to an unusual 38C.
Most classes were able to perform two races, with the 49ers, 49ersFX and the foiling Nacra 17s clocking in at three races each. Only the windsurfers struggled a bit more in the light conditions, still being able to bring one race home.
Day two is now well underway with competitors already out there trying to gain an edge over each other.
