Amazing weekend of racing at RBYC
Last weekend was truly an incredible weekend of racing for both the Saturday Keelboats and Sunday OTB dinghies.
Saturday was the next round of the Nautilus Marine Series’ with the White Divisions sailing 1 race for the day, and the Blue Division raced around RBYC’s fixed marks. Club Captain James Heywood’s Serious Yahoo was the big winner from RBYC in the white series Division 2 with a 1st on IRC and PHS handicaps. In the Blue series, which also has the RBYC High Flyers series, it was Geoff Adam’s True Colours who took the victory on corrected time, 1 minute ahead of Brian Cherry’s Lena and Marg Neeson’s Wild Child.
For the One Design Centre course racing, we had a season high of 18 boats, with 12 Etchells and 6 Dragons making their way to the course area. The final two races in the Etchells George Wyeth series with the big winner of the day being John Collingwood and crew aboard Dawn Raid with a 1st and 3rd. Ian Crisp’s That’s Life had a consistent day with two 2nds and Brendon Jukes and crew on Jukes of Hazzard were the second winner on the day. In the Dragons, it was the continuation of the Beachcomber Spring Aggregate series, with Charles Stanton and crew on Amazing Grace clean sweeping the day with two 1sts.
Sunday was a Stellar day on the water with a consistent 12 knots and early fog clearing to a beautiful sunny day. there were 32 dinghies in the fleet split into Div 1 and 2 (Juniors & Seniors). Three races were completed in Div 2 and two races in Div 1. The day made for some great photos which can be viewed on the clubs facebook page (photographs by Training and Marketing Coordinator Francesco Battaglini). A wonderful weekend of sailing at RBYC and we look forward to it again this weekend as we run up to Sail Melbourne in two weeks time.
